Our back story

Founded in 2010 by two friends in their 40’s, one a banker and the other a lawyer, CASA Living (Casablinds as it was known then) was an attempt in starting a business to gain experience at running a side hustle, whilst still having a professional life in corporate. By 2012 the banker quit his job at a global bank and went full time into the business that he knew nothing about. We moved premises in December 2011 and setup shop in January 2012. In November 2012 we wrote more business than we did for the entire previous year.

Luxaflex Gallery Stores are few and far between and we are the only remaining entity in KZN. We occupied a tiny 40sqm space which was cost effective. We built an amazing services team and later bought our first VW Caddy in 2013. When a famous German branded kitchen company was closed, true to out landlords word, he offered the larger premises to us. It came at the right time as Luxaflex South African management (mainly Dutch then) decided to import the latest Luxaflex Gallery fittings from Rotterdam. These new fittings were huge and took up more space than we imagined. So in August 2018 we moved next door.

In 2019 we became resellers of the German luxury awning brand Markilux and were invited to Emsdetten, Germany for training. We advised on a mammoth residential project in The Executive and it dawned on us that we are good at attention to detail and that we can venture into other product offerings for a home. So in 2020 amidst the chaos and uncertainty of Covid-19 we decided to change course or pivot and include more product lines like furniture. The Casablinds name that we built for the past 10 years and which was synonymous with quality, service and passion was no longer serving our new push.

We rebranded in 2021 to CASA Living and became official resellers of bentwood chairs from TON of Czechia / Czech Republic who have one of the oldest bentwood factories in Bystrice pod Hostynem. The factory visit in 2022 was detailed and showed the immense knowledge that the staff and management of this factory have. Valencia was chosen as the Design Capital of the world in 2022 and the Feria Habitat Fair introduced us to the quality craftsmanship from Spain. Here we found amazing brands like Treku, Sancal, Lebom, Joquer, Point, Ofifran, Tacto etc  who love their craft and their end products showed this passion. On our return we were contacted by Mobenia, a Tarragona based company who makes amazing contract furniture.

In 2023 Italy beckoned and the lovely and friendly Italians allowed us into their family run businesses. We were lucky enough to be invited into Sonia Gallotti’s Milan apartment and got a perspective of understated luxury…no bling bling. We got to meet with the owners of Shake Design, Miniforms, Elmar Cucine and Giellesse in their family run factories and showrooms.

In 2024 our focus remains on quality products that are comfortable and bring joy to those that utilise them. These products eventually become heirlooms.

Our suppliers from Europe and South Africa are considerate of the environment and only use FSC approved wood. We try our best to use sea freighters that reduce their carbon footprint.
